What we check
A checked rule comes from a council source linked on the beach page. We store the restriction dates, any time window, whether a lead is required, and the date the source was checked. There are currently 88 beaches with a checked council rule.
The displayed status is calculated for the date and time you choose, using London time. It is not a live confirmation from the council. Rules can change, and signs at the beach take priority.
What “not checked” means
Most beach locations come from OpenStreetMap. A place being listed on the map does not confirm that dogs are allowed. If no council rule has been checked, we say so explicitly. We do not treat a missing restriction as permission.
When only part of a beach allows dogs
A beach marked “Dogs allowed in designated areas” has different rules for different sections. Read the council description and follow the signs. The whole beach is not shown as open.
Distances and directions
Nearby distances are measured in a straight line. A driving route can be much longer, especially across estuaries or between islands. Directions point to the mapped beach location, which may not be a car park or an accessible entrance.
Visitor walks
Visitor posts describe someone’s experience. They do not change the council rule or replace the signs at the beach. Please avoid including private information in a public post. Posts can be removed by the site moderator.
