## Dog access

Evidence status: **Published dog rule available; check its dates, zones and validity**.

## Walking with your dog

- **Beach and dunes have different dates:** The Trust’s beach lead season is May–September. Dunes and heathland require leads from 1 March to 31 July; off-lead dogs must remain under close control outside each period. - **Lead on the approach:** Visit Dorset requires leads at beach access points; its South Beach entry also specifies the car park. Summer beach leads must be less than 2 metres. ## Parking, access and supporting details

- **Parking:** The Trust’s 2026 access statement lists Middle Beach car park at BH19 3AQ as a separate alternative to Knoll Beach. Follow the sign for the correct car park rather than assuming Knoll’s facilities are beside it. - Named arrival area: Studland Middle Beach National Trust Car Park. This is separate from the beach map reference.
- **Access:** Studland has mixed sand, heath and woodland terrain, and some routes are affected by soft sand or seasonal flooding. Knoll Beach is the Trust’s most accessible location; do not assume its level paths or beach matting also exist at Middle Beach. [National Trust: Studland Bay accessibility](https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/dorset/studland-bay/accessibility-at-studland-bay) (source checked 2026-10-27).
- **Drinking-water refill:** The Trust lists a refill station at Middle Beach. Bring a bowl for the dog and check that facilities are operating before relying on them. - **Middle Beach facilities:** The Trust specifically lists toilets and accessible toilets at Middle Beach. Its Changing Places room and main beach-wheelchair provision are at Knoll Beach; check availability at the correct location. - [Nearby alternative from South Beach car park: Old Harry Rocks, 3.5 miles / 5.6km, about 1–2 hours; not a route starting at Middle Beach](https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/dorset/studland-bay/old-harry-rocks-walk). These are published visitor details, without an on-site inspection. Unconfirmed facilities are not necessarily absent. Bring drinking water for your dog; a café listing does not confirm that dogs can go inside.
